Asian Rights Body Condemns Arrest of Bru Leader After Talks

New Delhi, Jan 25 : The Asian Centre for Human Rights (ACHR) has condemned the arrest of R Laldangliana. It described the arrest as an attempt by the State Government to sabotage the dialogue with the Mizoram Bru Displaced Peoples Forum (MBDPF) and the return of the Brus from Tripura.

Special Branch personnel of Mizoram Police arrested Laldangliana, the Vice President of the MBDPF, at 3 p.m. on January 23 in Mamit District while he was returning with MBDPF President Elvis Chorkhy, general secretary S Sawibunga and Bruto Meska after holding talks with State Government representatives on January 22.

In a letter to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, the ACHR stated said the Mizoram Government should be pulled up for this condemnable step, especially after the MBDPF had clearly urged the latter to facilitate the return of the Brus from Tripura.

The ACHR urged Chidambaram to intervene and have Laldangliana released immediately and unconditionally.
