Crime Decreases in Mizoram, Fewer Cases Registered


Aizawl, Jan 18 : Crimimal cases in Mizoram have gone down slightly if the record maintained by the police is to be based. According to DIG (Nothern Range) L Hrangnawn, cases reported to police had come down by 0.49% during 2009 in Mizoram.

The DIG revealed this while delivering a speech at a Crime Review Meeting held at Police Headquarters in Aizawl on Friday last. The meeting saw the presence of SPs, Commandants and officials from state police.

Mizoram police had registered 2674 crime cases during 2008 while in the year 2009 the figure had come down to 2661 with a 0.49% decreased from 2008. At the district wise statement of IPC and Non-IPC, Aizawl district topped the list with 1043 cases on IPC and 408 on Non-IPC.

On the other hand, Serchhip district is said to be the most peaceful district in Mizoram with only 81 cases registered on IPC and 17 cases on Non-IPC during 2009.

In the meantime, while divulging his satisfaction towards the police in nabbing criminals and handling cases, the DIG (Nothern range) L Hrangnawn said that police should not forget its duty in order to maintain law and order.

"Safeguarding, lending a helping hand and solving people’s various problems are the duty of police. So we have to work even harder in the coming days," said DIG.

He also lauded the initiatives of NGOs, churches and police for a peaceful and crackers-free New Year celebration in the state.

"The people, NGOs and churches have played a major role in banning crackers and spending peaceful new year celebration", the DIG (Nothern range) L Hrangnawn added.
