Guwahati, Jan 18 : Treaties signed between India and Bangladesh last week were against the United Nations (UN) declaration on the rights of the indigenous people, of which India was a signatory, the Assam Sanmilita Mahasangha (ASM), an activist group, alleged here today. ''The ASM strongly opposes the treaties signed with Bangladesh as most of the pacts are against the interest of North East and further proves the Centres step-motherly attitude towards the region,'' ASS working president Motiur Rahman said.
He alleged that the treaties were against the 46-point charter of the UN on rights of the indigenous people of the year 2007, of which India was also a signatory.
''The Indian government has sought to impose their decision on the utilization and sharing of natural resources of the indigenous people of NE without consulting them, which goes against the provisions of the UN declaration,'' Mr Rahman maintained.
The ASM had staged a sit-in demonstration on January 11 against the treaties with Bangladesh. ''We will continue with our protests,'' he added.
