MHRC member complains against Manipur Advocate General

Imphal, Jan 14: A Manipur Human Rights Commission member has complained to the Governor against state Advocate General N Koteshor following the latter's accusation that the MHRC member had "links with unwanted elements".

In a written complaint yesterday, R K Rajendra has urged the Governor to advise the state government to order an enquiry into the matter.

"If the government doesn't take any action, I will approach the National Human Rights Commission," Rajendra told reporters here.

MHRC is investigating into an incident in which a 28-year-old youth was allegedly killed by police in a fake encounter at Imphal market complex on July 23 last. A pregnant woman was also reportedly killed in the incident by stray bullets.

The state government had challenged the investigation of MHRC at the Guwahati High court after ordering a judicial enquiry of the encounter, officials said.
