Night Trains in Assam Suspended

Guwahati, Jan 25 : Train services in Assam for three consecutive nights, beginning tonight, have been suspended in view of stepped up security measures in the run-up to Republic Day celebrations, the North East Frontier Railways said.

A Railway spokesman said night running of trains would remain suspended from January 24 to 26.

Trains would not run in the state from 8 pm to 6 am with several long-distance ones rescheduled or terminated at various places. Several trains have been terminated at Guwahati and would not proceed onward to Dibrugarh in Upper Assam, he said.

Moreover, patrolling along railway tracks and security in railway stations have been beefed up with escort engines provided to trains in vulnerable areas, the spokesperson said.
