Sagol Kangjei Wins Cash Prize for Outstanding Performance


Imphal, Jan 18 : After an exceedingly good peformance in national level Polo championship in Kolkata, the Manipur Polo (Sagol Kangjei) team was today awarded with a cash prize of Rs two lakh by Red Shield Division.

Lt Gen VK Singh, General Officer Commanding in Chief, Eastern Command has sent a motivational award of Rs two lakh for Manipur Polo through Red Shield Division.

The prize was presented by Major General DS Hooda, General Officer Commanding 57 Mountain Division to the Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association in a befitting function at Leimakhong.

Red Shield Division in their efforts to enhance the sports potential of Manipur, undertook 'Op Sadbhavana' project of sending Manipur Polo (Sagol Kangjei) team to Kolkata for National Level Polo Championship on 25 Dec 09.

Gen Hooda had sent Colonel NS Rajpurohit, an international horse rider of Red Shield Division, to train and coordinate the participation of the Manipur Polo team at Kolkata.

The Red Shield Division will be instrumental in getting the Manipur Polo team on the international Polo road map.

Troops are helping development of polo considering the fact that the modern game of polo originated in Manipur.
