The Regional Director of the Swine Flu Monitoring Cell in the North-East, Partha Jyoti Gogoi, said 20-year-old Samiranjit Nath died last night due to the deadly virus.
Nath, an engineering student in Mumbai and a resident of Panjabari area of the city, had come home during the winter break and was admitted to the Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital on Thursday.
Nath was shifted to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital after his condition turned serious yesterday.
There are adequate medicines to combat the virus, he said and urged all patients with symptoms to report for testing since there has been an increase in swine flu cases in the state in the winter season.
