Tripura pledges full support to investors at NE business summit

Agartala, Jan 11 : Making an empathic call for investment in Tripura, State Industries and Commerce Minister Jitendra Chowdhury on Friday asserted that the State Government would come forward with all necessary support to the potential investors.

Speaking at the 5th North East Business Summit in Kolkata, Chowdhury said, “We are one of the better performing States among the Northeastern States with a number of positive indicator related per capita income. The per capita income has risen by 10.71 per cent from 1993-94 to 2007-08”.

“We are striving for higher growth in order to achieve targets in a time bound manner and this acceleration of economic growth will require a substantial increase in the volume of investments in the economy, both domestic and foreign”, Chowdhury said.

Highlighting the State’s strategic location with Bangladesh, Chowdhury said most of the important cities of the neighbouring country are within 150 kms from towns in Tripura. “The most important – Dhaka-Chittagong highway– Vishaw road in Bangladesh is possible to be accessed from Tripura through a short road length of 5 kms”, he said adding that the State’s close proximity with Bangladesh offers a great potential for setting up industries in Tripura.

Chowdhury also focused on the State’s industrial infrastructure. He said that the Bodhjungnagar Industrial Growth Centre with all modern infrastructure is situated around 12 km from the capital town. “The process for setting up of an export promotion park, food park, rubber park and bamboo park has already been taken”, he said.

Chowdhury, who represented the summit instead of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, also said that the State Government has been pursuing the Centre to restructure the NEIIPP so that the industrial package becomes more attractive for the domestic and foreign investors.
