Bodies of Manipur Army Men Killed in Avalanche Flown Home

indian-army Srinagar, Feb 10 : The bodies of the 17 army personnel killed in Khilanmarg avalanche tragedy have been flown to their home towns on Wednesday, Feb 10.

The 17 army personnel, including an officer were killed on Monday, Feb 8 in the avalanche 70 kms from here. The bodies were transported to Srinagar on Tuesday, Feb 9 night.

Defence Spokesman Colonel JS Bar informed that the bodies reached their respective home town on two special flights.

Four of the personnel belonged to Jammu and four to Punjab, the while remaining nine bodies have been taken to to Delhi from where they would be flown to Rajasthan, Manipur, Nepal, Indore and Ranchi, he added.

The avalanche struck troops during winter warfare training on steep slopes at Khilanmarg. The avalanche buried ski resort of Gulmarg killing 17 and injuring 17 members of the 60-strong combat team.

On the condition of injured soldiers, Mr Brar said, they were stable.
