RIMS Hospital Employees Intensify S trike

RIMS imphal Imphal, Feb 9 : The ongoing strike of the employees of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) has paralyzed the functioning of the premier medical institute and hospital here.

Intensifying their agitation over the irregular payment of salaries, employees of RIMS decided to close down the out-patient department services of the hospital from today.

A combined meeting of the striking bodies of the RIMS – Teachers and Medical Officers’ Association, Association of Junior Doctors, Nurses Association and Non-teaching Employees’ Welfare Association – took the decision to intensify their stir on Sunday.

The emergency services as well as teaching activities of the RIMS remained closed for the second day on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Dr Y Mohen, Medical Superintendent of the RIMS hospital is hopeful of reaching an understanding between the striking employees and authority concerned within a day or two.

The RIMS strike comes close on the heels of the Joint Administrative Council of All Manipur Trade Union Council and All Manipur Government Employees Organization sponsored ongoing cease work strike in Manipur.

The Council of nearly 60,000 State Government employees, demanding implementation of the revised Sixth Pay Commission in the State since mid-January has paralyzed the normal functioning of the government departments.

Security meet: Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi said that almost all the unchecked trans-border movement of the insurgent groups and the continued existence of their camps in Myanmar posed the real threat to internal security of Manipur and the Northeastern region.

Ibobi pressed the necessity and importance of effective management of 367 km Manipur sector of the Indo-Myanmar international boundary at the conference of Chief Ministers on Internal Security held at Vigyan Bhawan at New Delhi on Sunday, sources said.
