Imphal, Feb 8 : More than 50 trucks carrying essential items, which were held up in Senapati district of Manipur by a student's organization, would be brought back to the state capital today with security escort, official sources said.
Trucks loaded with essential items were stranded at Mao Gate since yesterday morning with the Senapati Students' Association (SSA) preventing the entry of trucks loaded with essential items from different parts of Assam to Manipur to press their demand for repairing a portion of NH 39 passing through the district.
Security personnel had been rushed to the area from here this morning to bring them back to the state capital.
Being a land-locked state, Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati NH 39 is considered to be the 'lifeline' of Manipur.
The Imphal-Jiribam-Silchar (Assam) NH53 is also an important road linking Manipur and the neighboring states.
