Voice Tools and Applications You Can Use

Anything that can function by simply using your voice has always been something that appeals to me. Inside my car, I own a Parrot hand-free device that allows you to speak to people on the phone without taking your eyes or hands off of the road.

On the internet, there are more and more tools and applications that function or revolve around your voice. Some allow communication, some redefine communication boundaries and some are just outright fun. Today I wish to share 10 different tools and applications that revolve around your voice and can hopefully add some extra functionality to your existing practices.

Voxli

Voxli is a simple and easy way to hold a voice conference online. The service is browser based and allows up to 200 people to converse at one time. Voxli requires no registration and adding participants to your chat is as easy as sharing the unique URL generated for that conference. Both gamers and large corporate teams would find this tool useful.

Woices

Woices is a unique website that lets users record audio snippets related to either a real-world location or specific object. The idea is that the site will provide people all over the world with a better and more personal understanding of the things that make up our world.

Uploaded audio files are referred to as “Echoes” and these echoes are sorted in different categories that allow a visitor to grab more information on a place or object.

VoxCards

VoxCards, put simply are talking e-cards. All the user has to do is pick an occassion, a small text greeting or filler and then called a US prefixed phone number (with a PIN) to record their message. Once recorded, an email address is entered for the recipient and your very own talking greetings card is dispatched into your recipients email inbox.

Twitterfone

Twitterfone allows Twitter account holders to send tweets to their Twitter stream with their voice. All the user has to do is sign up, register their phone with the their Twitter account and then phone a local number to send their tweet. Whilst the site is in private beta, invitations are sent out weekly so it shouldn’t take long to get an account.

Not only are you able to chat with your friends via IM, you can chat to them using the inbuilt voice chat and even share your desktop with them at the same time. Yakkle also allows remote users to control the mouse and keyboard, meaning this tool could be very useful to IT technicians and the like.

Dixero

Dixero is an online tool that allows you to listen to your favourite RSS feeds either through the website or as a downloadable podcast. All the user needs to do is import their feeds, choose which channels they wish those feeds to belong to, even choose a voice that will read their feed to them, all before downloading it as an MP3 or listening via the website.

Jajah connects any two telephones, whether they are home, mobile or somewhere across the world whether they are internet connected or not, allowing people people to make significantly cheaper long distance calls.

Bubbleshare

Bubbleshare is a clever photo album website that works on the idea that photos are not just images, they are stories. After a painless registration, users can upload photos without software installs, remix them and add their own stories using their voice (which can be embedded into a slideshow) so people can get a real idea of the place or object in that photo.

10. Paltalk

image

Paltalk is billed as an ultimate online communications tool. The services aims to enhance the traditional IM and chat room people are familiar with and add crystal clear voice and video chat. The downloadable software is compatible with AOL, Yahoo and ICQ messaging tools.

Conclusion

These tools incorporate a lot of different voice applications, some help with your mobile life, some connect you to people you have never met and some allow you to enhance your existing online communities. We have deliberately left out services such as GTalk and Skype as I would hope most people are already familiar with these tools.
