Ambika-Soni Aizawl, Mar 11 : Union Minister for Information and broadcasting Ambika Soni has been invited to witness the Mizoram's attempt to set a Guinness Book of World Record on bamboo dance (locally known as Cheraw) on March 12.

State Art and Culture Minister P C Zoramsangliana has invited the Union Minister to attend the world record event as the chief guest, an official statement said here today.

Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla had also requested UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi to facilitate the minister's daylong visit to Aizawl to grace the event during her recent visit to the state capital.

Sonia Gandhi herself was impressed by a mass bamboo dance which was performed before she addressed the public here on Saturday after laying the foundation stone of Rajiv Gandhi Sports Stadium.

''I wish you all the best in your attempt to set Guinness world record on bamboo dance,'' Sonia said.

Official sources said the stage is being set for the world record event which will be witnessed by Guiness adjudicators from London.

More than 10,000 dancers will perform the Mizoram traditional dance at the Assam Rifles Ground in the heart of the city and along the main road from Chanmari to Sikulpuikawn.

The city's main road will be closed for vehicles and pedestrians during the world largest and longest dance ensemble which will be started from 1400 hrs of the day.

The event coincides with Chapchar Kut or spring festival, the Mizos' biggest festival.
