Al Gore 'Having Affair With Comedian Larry David's Green Activist Ex-wife'

By David Gardner

Former US vice president Al Gore cheated on his wife with one of America's most prominent climate change campaigners, it was reported last night.

Mr Gore has allegedly been having a two-year affair with environmental activist Laurie David, who divorced comedian Larry David in 2007.

The couple knew each other before they started seeing each other romantically, according to celebrity gossip and scandal magazine Star.

Just friends? Tipper and Al Gore join Larry and Laurie David at the 2006 premiere of Gore's movie. It is claimed Gore and Ms David are in a relationship

Miss David, who serves as a trustee on the US Natural Resources Defence Council, was a producer on the former Democrat presidential candidate's acclaimed Oscar-winning film, An Inconvenient Truth.

'Al and Laurie went from friends to lovers.

'It couldn't be avoided,' a source told the weekly magazine.

There was no independent corroboration for the story last night.

Friends of Mr Gore and his 61-year-old wife, Tipper, insisted there was no-one else involved after the split was announced earlier this month.

The Gores said: 'This is very much a mutual and mutually supportive decision ... following a process of long and careful consideration.'

There was widespread shock at the separation of the Gores, who met at a school dance and married in 1970.

Their playful romance enlivened Washington and appeared in contrast to the public travails of the Clintons during the eight years Mr Gore, now 62, served as vice president.

And their passionate kiss on stage when Mr Gore launched his unsuccessful bid for the presidency in 2000 was the talk of the campaign.

But sources said they grew apart after their four children grew up.

As well as creating Seinfeld, one of U.S. TV's most successful sitcoms, Larry David stars in awkward comedy Curb Your Enthusiasm.
