Haflong (Assam), Jun 17 : Train services in central Assam's North Cachar Hills district have been disrupted due to heavy landslides and a three-day railway blockade called by a students organization today.
The landslide and blockade affected the Agartala Special, Cachar Express, Barak Valley Passenger, Hill Queen and several other goods trains, railway sources said here today.
Landslides between Jatinga and Longrangjao as well as Mahur and Wadringdisa yesterday stopped rail traffic in the district, the sources said.
A 72-hour railway blockade sponsored by the Indigenous Students Forum had also halted movement of the trains in the district, the sources said.
The non-Dimasa ethnic group students are demanding bifurcation of the district into two autonomous districts as N C Hills was renamed `Dimahasao' recently.
