Road Accidents Claim 612 Lives in 10 Years in Mizoram

According to official records, the incidence of road accidents was comparatively higher this year with 68 mishaps and 42 deaths recorded till May.

The years 2006 and 2008 witnessed 53 road accidents each, claiming 62 and 63 lives respectively. In terms of human casualty, 2001 was the highest with 67 deaths from 31 accidents.

Meanwhile, the number of vehicles registered in Mizoram till March this year stood at 80,188, of which 3,916 were government vehicles. Two-wheeler constituted 53.33 per cent of the vehicles registered in Mizoram.

The population of two-wheelers in the state capital has tremendously increased during the past few years owing to increasing traffic congestion.
