Houses Dismantled at Mizoram Due to Earth Faults

earth faults in mamit Aizawl, Sep 22 : The Mizoram government today said that at least 61 houses in Mamit town at the Mizoram-Tripura border has been dismantled due to threats posed by earth faults.

Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla today informed the state Assembly that many houses were affected by cracks appearing on the ground in the town and a Presbyterian church building and a primary school are also in a perilous situation.

Cracks, which appeared in different parts of the Mamit town, has rendered many families homeless, he said adding that the affected families were evacuated and have been asked to stay in halls and schools or at their relatives'' houses.

The district deputy commissioner has disbursed Rs 20 lakh among the affected families and each family whose house have been dismantled were given Rs 35,000, he said.

A three-member team of legislators led by Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Minister Nihar Kanti Chakma left for Mamit today to organize rescue and relief works and also to disburse interim relief to the affected people.
