Neetu Chandra was born in Patna, Bihar. She studied at the prestigious Notre Dame Academy in Patna and IP College in Delhi.
Neetu's father, a businessman, was initially reluctant to let her pursue a career in movies. But her mother, Meera, stood by her.

In 2003, she received the Best Student Award for Sports and Academics from the Prime Minister of India.
Her first film was 'Garam Masala' (2005), in which she portrayed Sweety, an airhostess.
Her second movie was in Telugu, 'Godavari' (2006), directed by Sekhar Kammula.
The lead role in Madhur Bhandarkar's 'Traffic Signal', gave her the recognition she desperately wanted.
