Imphal, Apr 27 : Airtel recently had decided to close close shop in Manipur after facing continuous militants attacks. The attacks by militants targets on telecom towers and employees in Manipur.
The result is tower service of Airtel company has stopped its operations in the state. But finally Airtel decided to continue the service for more time.
As source reported, If Airtel close the service, this will affect more than 3 lakh Airtel subscribers there. Few days back some unknown militants have also torched a Airtel tower at Langol.
Militants destroyed 10 BTS towers in 2010 whereas 17 towers in 2009. BSNL, Aircel, Vodafone, Reliance and Tata Indicom also providing services in Manipur.
According to an official statement from the Airtel, "Airtel services in Manipur continue to work as usual, allowing our customers to stay connected with friends and family”.
Previously the Airtel services were down in most of the areas of Manipur since last week. But after too many attacks and when most of towers got damaged their operation was completely shut down.
Even two employees have been shotted in attacks over the past few weeks. The police have registered 6 cases in the past 4 months, but none of them were arrested yet.
Recently Nilakomol Singh, advisor, Manipur Airtel worker union stat, "The incident has scared us.
We do not want to die just because we operate the BTS towers in Manipur. We are very worried. We do not know how things will be but for now the towers are not functioning till we reach an amicable solution".
