Dimapur Police Arrest Africans With Fake Currency

Fake-Currency dimapurKohima, Apr 27 : One Nigerian national along with some materials to make fake currency was arrested from Notun Basti area of Dimapur town on Monday last.

Official sources today said the Nigerian national, identified as Ewa Eric Anyimba, was arrested by Dimapur Police on charges of possessing counterfeiting materials for making currency notes.

Two other Nigerians and one Liberian national, along with another person reported to be from Manipur, are stated to have escaped before the police could reach the spot.

Sources said the five accused arrived in Dimapur by train about five days back and had put up at different hotels looking for gullible customers to dupe and extract money.

As per the confession of the accused, they had reportedly found one such customer and cheated a sum of Rs 1,50,000.

Police were tipped off by a resident of Notun Bosti which ultimately led to their arrest. According to the report of the complainant to the police, the accused gang had come to his residence claiming that they have chemicals and materials to make counterfeit currency and bank notes.

To test their claim the complainant had reportedly insisted on seeing the chemicals and asked them to demonstrate the process of making the money.

Accordingly, the accused produced a bundle of black and white paper and a container of the unknown chemical.

While they were in the process of making the counterfeit notes, the complainant informed the police and apprehended one of the accused. However, the others managed to escape.

Sources said a case has been registered under relevant sections of law and efforts are on to arrest the absconding persons.
