Mizo Party Gets New Chief

Brig Thenphunga SailoAizawl, Apr 14 : Mizoram People's Conference patriarch Brig (rtd) T Sailo's eldest son Lalhmangaiha, a 61-year-old former bureaucrat, today took over as the new commander-in-chief of the party his father had founded 31 years ago.

The retired Indian Revenue Service (income tax) was elected the president of MPC, after he was nominated during the two-day party general assembly here.

Party sources said Lalhmangaiha defeated party’s official candidate and former minister Lalhmingthanga, who had acted as a working president of the party for some years.

Incidentally, Lalhmingthanga, 71, is a nephew of MPC supreme T Sailo. He was the Finance Minister of Mizoram People’s Conference (then People’s Conference) ministry during 1977-1984, and the right hand man of then chief minister T Sailo.

The MPC president-elect is a newcomer in politics, who joined his father’s party just a few months back, after he retired from government services.

The party also elected former assembly deputy speaker Vanlalhlana and sitting MPC legislator Lalthansanga as vice-president and treasurer respectively.
