Mizo NGOs Submit Memo To Chidambaram

: Major NGOs in Mizoram would demand adequate compensation and rehabilitation for 80 Mizo families who were displaced after being driven out by Bru militants from Sachan range in Tripura during late 1990s, to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram when he visits the state on Tuesday, one of the leaders of the NGOs said here today.

The NGO leader said that a joint meeting of the Young Mizo Association (YMA), Mizoram Upa Pawl (MUP) or Elders association, Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP) or women's association and the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) the apex student body today decided to submit a memorandum to Chidambaram in Aizawl.

"We would demand that the ongoing Bru refugee repatriation should be stalled until and unless the displaced Mizo families were given adequate rehabilitation and resettlement package," he said.

The joint NGOs also would demand adequate compensation to the family members of Johny F. Lalhmangaihzuala, who was allegedly beaten to death by Sudanese national during a friendly football match at Lovely Professional University, Punjab recently.
