Riya Sen is granddaughter to Suchitra Sen, daughter to Moon Moon Sen and sister to Raima Sen. The Kolkata siren is a top model and has an on-screen persona reminiscent of her mother's. Her bold characters and on-screen smooches have made her a youth icon in India. Riya will be seen next in Rituparno Ghosh's 'Kashmakash' releasing this weekend.
Riya Sen made her on-screen debut as a child artiste in 'Vishkanya' (1991), directed by Jag Mundhra. Her co-stars in the film included her mother Moon Moon Sen, Pooja Bedi and Kabir Bedi.

Riya's father Bharat Dev Varma is a member of the royal family of Tripura; her paternal grandmother, Ila Devi, was the princess of Cooch Behar, whose younger sister Gayatri Devi is the Maharani of Jaipur.
Riya studied at Loreto House and Rani Birla College, both in Kolkata. She later studied at the National Institute of Fashion Technology; jewellery-designing is her hobby.
Riya is a trained Kathak dancer, takes kickboxing lessons and has cleared the Level-I of Belly dancing.
Riya has appeared in an AIDS awareness music video, 'Haath Se Haath Mila', along with Waheeda Rehman, Shilpa Shetty, Dia Mirza, Raveena Tandon, Jackie Shroff, Naseeruddin Shah, Tabu and Lara Dutta.
Riya shot for her first music video, Falguni Pathak's 'Yaad Piya Ki Aane Lagi', when she was only 16, and went on to act in numerous videos, including Asha Bhosle's 'Jhumka Gira Re', Jagjit Singh and Bhosle's 'Jab Samne Tum' and 'Kahin Kahin Se', Lata Mangeshkar, Bhonsle and Singh's 'Dil Kahin Hosh Kahin' and Sonu Nigam's 'Jeena Hai Tere Liye'.
Her first English film was 'It Was Raining That Night', a remake of the Bengali film 'Hei Brishtir Raat', directed by Mahesh Manjrekar.
