Flood Situation in Assam Remains Unchanged

assam floodGuwahati, Jul 22 : In Assam, the overall flood situation in Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Sonitpur, Jorhat, Darrang and Barpeta districts remain unchanged. The river Brahmaputra and its a few tributaries are constantly flowing above the Danger level mark. Flood water has also entered the Kaziranga National Park and Pabitara Wildlife Sanctuary. According to official report, two persons killed in flood waters in the last 36 hours.The district administrations have intensified relief works.

A total of 320 villages in six districts affected by flood. The district administrations set up 262 relief camps and rice, dal and salt are being provided to the inmates.

Twenty-one country and rubber boats are being deployed for relief works. The North East Frontier Railway also intensified the repairing works of Rangia - Mukachang rail link in Lakhimpur. A portion of the rail track washed away by flood on Wednesday which caused disruption of rail services.

The recent floods also caused damage to Bao and Ahu crops in 16 thousand hectres of land. It also damaged 180 houses in these districts. Nine medical teams are providing services to the affected people.

But there is no report of outbreak of any epidemics in the flood affected districts. Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi instructed district administration to provide all sorts of relief works on war-footing.
