Aizawl, Jul 20 : The Mizoram People’s Conference (MPC) today sought the intervention of the state Governor on issues pertaining to the curtailment of the Mizoram Public Service Commission (MPSC), establishment of Mizoram NIT and poor road conditions in Mizoram.
The MPC submitted a three-point memorandum to Governor Lt Gen (rtd) M M Lakhera after staging a dharna here, demanding a revocation of a government notification of May 26, 2011 that curtailed the MPSC’s power of recruitment and promotion of group B officers of the grade pay of Rs 4,400 and below under the state government.
The MPC feared that this curtailment of MPSC’s power and functions would prevent educated youths from entering government services and create a breeding ground for undue favoritism and nepotism.
Discontentment among the youth, as a result of this, could further breed tendency to insurgency among the youth, the memorandum said.
The MPC also slammed the state government’s 'slow actions' towards the establishment of NIT Mizoram despite the fact that the Centre had already sanctioned Rs 250 crore for the purpose.
It alleged that the funds for establishment of the institute had been lying unutilised.
''The institution should be established in a location where it can have the best administrative, academic and infrastructural development facilities,'' the MPC said in its memorandum.
Incidentally, the Mizoram Government had planned to set up the NIT Mizoram campus at Thenzawl, 93 kilometres from here.
The MPC also urged the Governor to intervene in the prevailing issue of poor condition of roads.
Taking side with the Public Works department on the conflicting issue, the MPC urged the Governor to take steps to ensure better financial management so that any development fund, meant for a specific work, is never again diverted for any other purpose.
