Guwahati, Aug 15 : The Gauhati High Court on Saturday (August 13) granted interim bail to militant outfit Dima Halam Daoga (Jewel)'s chief Jewel Garlosa and self-styled commander-in-chief Niranjan Hojai.
Chief Justice Madan Lokur and Justice Hrishikesh Roy granted them interim bail for four months in the interest of taking forward the peace talks.
The High Court had admitted the bail petition of Garlosa and Hojai on August three and served a notice to the state and the central government.
The bail petition was moved to the High Court after the court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) rejected the bail plea of the two despite the NIA public prosecutor having submitted a no-objection certificate from the ministry of home affairs and the state home department for their release in a bid to take forward the peace process with the banned outfit.
Garlosa was arrested on June 4, 2009 from Bangalore and Hojai from Nepal in July 2010 in connection with the NIA investigations relating to the case of diversion of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council development funds to the militant outfit for procurement of arms.
The DHD(J) had declared an unilateral ceasefire in October 2009 and announced it was keen to hold peace talks with the government.
