Mizoram Govt To Extend All Help To Hmar Refugees: CS

press conference chief secretary Van Hela PachuauAizawl, Oct 21 : Mizoram government would extend all possible aid to the Hmar refugees from Dima Hasao district of Assam who were taking shelter in the homes of their relatives in Mizoram, state chief secretary Van Hela Pachuau today said.

Almost 200 people belonging to the Hmar community fled and came to Mizoram-Assam border Bairabi town, the only rail link in the state, by train from Dima Hatao district after ethnic clashes between Dimasas and non-Dimasas.

Pachuau said that relief aids like food and blankets would be provided to the refugees while government officials at Bairabi were instructed to look for vacant government buildings for accommodation of the refugees.

"We have instructed district administration officials of the Kolasib district not to enroll the refugees in the electoral rolls and also not to be include them in the lists of beneficiaries under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS),"he said.

While majority of the Hmar refugees stayed in Bairabi some of them were also staying in Phainuam, Saihapui-V and Bilkhawthlir in Kolasib district and Aizawl district's Saipum village.
