Mizoram To Check Smuggling Of Orchids, Medicinal Plants

Aizawl, Jul 5 : Orchid House and medical garden constructed at central nursery at Sairang, that aim to check the smuggling of valuable orchids and medicinal plants from Mizoram, were inaugurated by Forest Minister H Rohluna on Friday. While Orchid House was constructed at the cost of Rs 15 lakh, the Medicinal Garden cost Rs 6.80 lakh.

Rohluna said the Orchid House and the Medical Garden were established with an aim to check the large-scale smuggling of the valuable plants, mainly into Myanmar.

Different species of orchids in Mizoram will be preserved at the two-storey Orchid House that measures 40×30 feet. Of the 87 species of orchids found in Mizoram, 54 species are already preserved at the house.
