Pianmawia was accused of forging the seal of North Serzawl Village Council president for withdrawing money meant for a village project. The ruling party’s embarrassment is compounded because the accused happens to be the deputy chief whip of the party.
The FIR was filed in the Aizawl Police Station last Thursday by K Laldinthara, joint secretary (vigilance) of the Mizo National Front. The case, filed under Sec 419, 468, 471, 473 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code, pertains to forgery, cheating, possession of fake seal, tampering with evidence and breach of trust by public servant.
This is the second FIR filed on the same case, the earlier one being filed by the village council president Thinlaihnema and treasurer Lalthanglura Sailo on April 17.
The scam came to light when the village council president went to the Aizawl DC for the fund but were shocked to learn that the fund amounting to Rs 1,00,000 had already been withdrawn by them. Shocked that someone impersonating them had made off with their funds, the Serzawl village council filed a complaint with the police.
According to the complaint, following the village council president’s FIR, Pianmawia had called them to his office the next day and allegedly told them that he had made a fake seal and had withdrawn the amount. He then destroyed the seal by setting it on fire, allegedly in the presence of the Additional DC and another official. Moreover, the complainant alleged that under pressure from the MLA, the village council officials were forced to seek permission of the police to withdraw the FIR.
