Assam Women Archers Accuse Coach of Sexual Abuse

assam archers Guwahati, May 13 : A group of women archers in Assam Thursday accused their main coach of sexually abusing and harassing them during training sessions and demanded strict punishment for him.

A group of 14 women archers today alleged persistent sexual harassment by Sports Authority of India (SAI) archery coach Gunin Changmai over the last two years.

“The women archers told us about how the coach misbehaved with the women trainees and at times even physically abusing some of them both inside and outside the training arena,” Jayanta Boro, president of the All Assam Archery Association, told journalists.

Some of the women archers were also present during the press conference and narrated their sordid experience.

“The coach also ill treated some of the male trainees,” Boro said.

The women archers are now demanding stern action against the coach.

“As per norms, the coach should be removed from the post and punished,” one of the women archers said requesting not to be named.

“Most of us are victims of sexual abuse by the coach. He not only passed obscene and lewd comments, but also touched our private parts when we were alone.”

The women archers have since given a formal complaint to SAI against the coach.

But Kim did admit she often relies on cosmetics to help maintain her flawless complexion.

She added: 'Make-up just enhances beauty. It makes you look more rested and even-toned.

'I use it to give my whole face a little more colour since it’s so pale in comparison to my body.'

On Tuesday night, Kim headed out for dinner with family and showed off her famous figure in a tight minidress which higlighted her curves.

But Kim wasn't the only one displaying her toned legs in a short skirt - her sister Khloé, 25, opted for a leather mini-skirt and white shirt combination for dinner at Los Angeles restaurant Mr Chow's.

Older sister Kourtney, 31, declined to join in the leg-baring, instead choosing a flattering black jumpsuit.

'I'm not really the dating type. I'm a relationship sort of girl so you won't see me out so much,' she said.

Kim also suggested that she thinks that her next boyfriend will possibly be the guy she marries.

She said: 'I really feel that the next one that will come into my life will be my husband.'

But Kim said she is 'such a hopeless romantic' so she may take a year out to concentrate on herself.

Seacrest also asked Kim about the abuse she received from Justin Bieber fans after the teen pop star Twittered that the socialite was his girlfriend.

She said: 'I was getting the craziest messages from all of the Bliebers. And so I was Twittering him, like "hey Bliebs, this is crazy, getting death threats from your fans."

'I think they were 10-year-olds that got carried away, so he asked all his Bliebers to stop attacking me.'

Border Villages of Manipur, Gateway For Trade

maymar border Chandel (Manipur), May 13 : The border areas of Manipur’s Chandel district, adjacent to Myanmar, function as a gateway to promote international border trade. A visit to some of the remote villages in the area would indicate the important role played by them in the region.

Manipur, which occupies a stretch of 1,463-kilometers along the border with Myanmar, is considered the gateway for India’s trade with South East Asian neighbors.

Moreh town in Manipur, 110 km from capital Imphal, is an upcoming commercial hub under the ‘Look East Policy’. The Central Government has undertaken construction of roads for better connectivity along the Indo-Myanmar border .Construction of a bridge over the Khujairok River and work on border fencing are also underway.”

Twenty five items have been selected and short-listed under Indo-Myanmar border trade agreement. Another 15 items are then added. Altogether, 40 items were selected as trade items……. Both the countries will be benefited. India will get things at cheaper price,” says Lunminthang Haokip, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Moreh.

Another interesting place is Ngamkhai village, surrounded by lush green mountains, it is predominantly inhabited by the Kuki tribe. Main occupation of the villagers here is making charcoal, collecting timber from the forest and sand stones from riverbanks. It is located close to Moreh, but still it lags behind in terms of development. Limited healthcare facilities, insufficient water supply and erratic power supply are some of the problems faced by the villagers.

“Healthcare is practically nil. We depend on the primary health center, which is not properly set up. It lacks doctors, nurses and instruments,” said Ginsei Lhungdim, General Secretary, Hill Tribal Council”We usually face water-shortage as we live at higher elevation.

The supply that we receive doesn’t even last for half and hour and it is not enough for all of us,” said Tong Khongam, a local resident of Ngamkhai Veng Village. Even though insurgency led violence is less in the area as compared to other parts of Manipur, there are frequent economic blockades and shutdowns.

According to Lunminthang Haokip, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Moreh, practical problems are there. The road between Pallen and Moreh is not good.

Moreover, other problems like bandhs and economic blockades hamper trade.Villagers believe that the suspension of operation agreement signed between the Center and the Kuki National Front (KNF) has considerably reduced militancy in the region.”

There is no of violence by Valley or tribal Underground group, following the signing of Suspension of Operations agreement,” said Ginsei Lhungdim, General secretary, Hill Tribal Council. It is hoped that with proper development of infrastructure, the immense business potential of these border villages can be realized that will transform the lives of the villagers.

She said that other family members had become alerted to the tragedy after seeing pictures of Ruben being treated by Libyan medics.

"We don't understand it. It's like we're in a movie," she said.

Ruben's uncle and aunt have now arrived in Tripoli on board a ministry plane and are being taken to hospital to see the boy.

Dutch officials said the child had undergone surgery for broken bones and his condition was not life-threatening.

A Dutch foreign ministry spokesman would not confirm the survivor's identity "until the two presumed family members have seen the child".

Japanese Grandmaster Trains Karate Do Players in Imphal

karate do Imphal (Manipur), May 13 : Shihan Yoshiaki Ajari, an 8th Dan Japanese Grandmaster, is imparting training to over 130 Karate Do players at the main indoor stadium of Khuman Lampak Sports Complex in Manipur’s Imphal city.

Players from across India have come here to attend the eight-day camp that began on May 9.
The Wadokai Karate Do Federation of India, in association with Wadokai Karate Do Association of Manipur, has organised this camp under the patronage of the North Eastern Council.

Ajari is also the founder of Japanese Karate-Do Federation Wodakai, in United States of America.

‘Karate is my life. I do it 50 hours in a week. Yes, I have been invited to Manipur to impart training. These players are very good. Training makes a lot of difference. I am doing Karate for 60 years there was a time, when even I was weak,’ said Ajari.

A local player here said that he was delighted to be in the camp and learn from the master.

‘There is no other grandmaster of that level in India. If someone had to take the coaching, he had to go Japan. It was very expensive for the common man. It is so useful for us that master has come here to train us,’ said Thanil, a Karate Do player.

Karate Do that originated from Japan is a form of traditional Budo (martial way of life). It is commonly thought of as a way to defend oneself from attack.

( Photo/Shib Shankar Chatterjee) Aizawl, May 13 : The Centre government has decided to beef up security along Mizoram's porous international borders with Bangladesh and Mizoram to check trans-border movement of terrorists and smugglers, state home department officials said in Aizawl on Thursday.

Sandwiched between the two countries, Mizoram shares 404 km and 318 km long borders with Myanmar and Bangladesh respectively.

Quoting intelligence reports, the officials said Northeast militants hiding in the two countries frequently used Mizoram, the most peaceful state in the region, as corridors.

During their recent visits to the state, the chiefs of the BSF and the Assam Rifles informed Mizoram governor Lt. General M.M. Lakhera and Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla that more troops would be deployed along the border areas, the officials added.

Assam Prawns Recipe

Raw jumbo prawns are not easy to find in Britain, but this works fine with raw tiger prawns (choose organic prawns from M&S).

Assam prawns recipe

Serves 4

Cook them on a barbecue instead of in a pan, if you wish. If you cannot find kecap manis, add a teaspoon of sugar to 1½ tablespoons of dark soy sauce.

For the prawns

3 tbsp kecap manis (Asian shops or waiyeehong.com)

2cm piece of ginger, grated

8 raw jumbo prawns, shell on

1 tbsp groundnut oil, for frying

For the okra salad

2 tbsp groundnut oil

400g okra, sliced lengthways

1 tbsp tamarind paste (optional)

4 tomatoes, sliced very thinly

1 red or pink onion, sliced very thinly

the juice of 2 limes

a small handful of coriander leaves, chopped

Mix the kecap manis and the ginger in a shallow dish and roll the prawns around in it. Leave to marinate in the fridge for an hour or more.

To make the okra salad, heat the groundnut oil in a pan over a high heat and fry the okra until crisp. Transfer to a serving bowl and add the tamarind paste (if using), tomatoes, onion, lime juice, coriander, salt and pepper. Mix well and set aside.

Fry or grill the prawns in the tablespoon of groundnut oil on both sides until the marinade has evaporated and the shells are pink and charred. Serve each person with two prawns on top of some okra salad, with a lime wedge alongside.

Hamish Anderson’s wine choice 2007 Extra Special Chardonnay, Adelaide Hills, South Australia £6.78, Asda. This dish is not strongly spiced, so you can try a grape such as chardonnay, not usually a bedfellow of spicy food. This reminds me of a turbo-charged Chablis; its rich, mineral elements make a great match for meaty prawns.
